Help ‘Stick it to Cancer,’ raise funds for organizations

On Dec. 3, 2004, Lisa Johnson, a 20-year Town of Tonawanda resident, underwent successful surgery in her battle against cancer. To celebrate six years of being cancer-free, she’s throwing herself a party, but the community will be the benefactor.

The second annual Stick it to Cancer Blood Drive and Basket Raffle will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at VFW Post 7275, 3741 Walden Ave., Lancaster. Proceeds will be donated to the Town of Tonawanda Paramedics and the American Cancer Society through the 2011 Lancaster Relay for Life. The American Red Cross also will be available with its mobile unit to collect blood donations.

New this year, a guitar autographed by national recording artists Bret Michaels, Tiffany, and Tears for Fears also will be part of the special item auction. Signatures have been collected since June during Johnson’s “Great Guitar Project: Strike a Chord Against Cancer.” Autographs are still being sought, and the progress may be followed at www.facebook.com/gr8guitar, where a list of donors to the basket raffle also may be found.

Admission will be $10 per person at the door or free for presenting blood donors and those 10 and younger. The admission price will include the first set of basket raffle tickets, nonalcoholic beverages and snacks. Food, a 50/50 split and other special raffles also will be available. The acoustic duo TNT~Tom and Tony of Hot Daddy Rocks also will perform from 3 to 6 p.m. Drawings will begin at 6 p.m., but winners do not need to be present.
