Paperback book sale slated at library

The Friends of the North Tonawanda Public Library will hold a paperback book sale from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, and from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at 505 Meadow Drive.

Attendees are encouraged to bring in their reusable grocery bags and fill them for $5 each. Paper bags will also be available.

If individuals purchase a Friends of the Library book bag for $4, they can fill it for an additional $3. The suggested donation price for individual volumes is $1 each.

Membership to the Friends of the Library is available on an annual basis of $7 for an individual or $10 for a family. Lifetime membership is also offered for $50.

The Friends of the Library was established in 1969. At that time, the library was headquartered in the Carnegie Building on Goundry Street. The Friends spearheaded the effort to turn the caretaker’s cottage, Little House, into a meeting facility.

The group’s stated purpose was “to broaden the [library] services offered to the community and to help promote a fuller understanding of the library’s functions.” With the move to Meadow Drive, this goal still holds. The Friends also assist the library financially and by volunteering.

Meetings are open to all members and are held on the second Monday of the month, September through June, at the library.
