Warriors Walk Wednesdays to start in May

The third annual Warriors Walk Wednesdays will kick off at 6:30 p.m. May 30 in front of the Long Homestead. The walk will also include a free tour of the Long Homestead.

According to City of Tonawanda Common Council President Jenna Koch, this is a walking tour that highlights the history and heritage, neighborhood by neighborhood, within the City of Tonawanda.

The moderate walk includes a historical overview of the neighborhood presented by the Historical Society of the Tonawandas.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and see the hidden jewels of the historic affluent City of Tonawanda,” Koch said.

Warriors Walk Wednesdays will run every other Wednesday through Sept. 5. The walks vary in length, but are approximately 1½ miles long.

Walkers are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food donation that will benefit the local food pantry, wear comfortable footwear and bring a water bottle. Koch and the Warriors Walk Wednesdays committee are looking forward to another successful season.

“Over 600 walkers have joined us on our Warriors Walk Wednesdays. We are growing each and every year. We could not have done this without the support of the Historical Society of the Tonawandas,” Koch said.

Interested participants can visit the Warriors Walk Wednesdays Facebook page or contact Jenna Koch at jkoch4council@gmail.com or at 692-3070 for more information.

Koch noted that the Facebook page has a detailed schedule of the walk along with information on what to bring to help an organization in the community.
