Kenmore Days set for June 20-23

by ANNA DEROSA Editor

The Village of Kenmore’s annual Kenmore Days event — a tradition dating back to the 1970s — will return Wednesday, June 20, through Saturday, June 23. The event features a variety of activities, such as a carnival, food trucks, live music and fireworks show.

“It’s just a great community event,” said Kathleen Johnson, Village of Kenmore clerk/treasurer and organizer of the event.

She noted that in the spirit of tradition, the events will kick off on June 20 on the Municipal Green, located outside the Municipal Building at 2919 Delaware Ave.

The night will include Lloyd Taco Truck and Chef’s selling food from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and the band Breakaway performing from 6 to 9 p.m.

Rides, games and food will return to Mang Park for the carnival from 5 to 10 p.m Thursday and from noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Presale tickets for the carnival are available for purchase from now through 4 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at the following locations: the Kenmore Municipal Building, Room 17; Mike’s Subs; Colvin Cleaners; M&T Bank’s Kenmore Branch; and Key Bank’s Kenmore Branch.

Ten tickets cost $12, and each ticket is good for one ride. Presale tickets can be used any time or day the carnival is running.

Ride bracelets are also available for purchase for $18, which allow unlimited access to rides from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday and from noon to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

First responders and veterans are able to purchase a bracelet at a discounted price of $10 with proof of ID.

The beer tent, located on the Municipal Green, will be open from 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday. Alcoholic beverages will be available to purchase by those over the age of 21.

On June 21, there will be a free car-seat safety inspection from 4 to 8 p.m. behind the Kenmore Community Center, located at 135 Wilber Ave. There will be a child/family safety identification program available from 6 to 9 p.m., also at the community center.

Also in the evening, Strictly Hip will be performing from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Showmobile in Mang Park. There will be a showing of the movie “Moana” in the park at 9:30 p.m., and the character Moana will meet with children from 7 to 9 p.m.

In the event of inclement weather, the movie will be shown inside the community center.

On Friday, Last Call will be performing from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Showmobile in Mang Park.

On June 23, the last day of Kenmore Days, events will take place on Delaware Avenue around the Municipal Building and at Mang Park.

At 11 a.m., entertainment will be provided by Paul Antonio Magic, followed by an exhibition by Nickel City Reptiles and Exotics at noon on Delaware Avenue.

Truck Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Village Green, which will feature Lloyd and Chef’s food trucks. New this year, children and families will also have a chance to get a close-up look at Department of Public Works, fire and police vehicles.

“They will really get a firsthand view, so there’s a truck for everyone to enjoy,” Johnson said.

There’s also a new game to watch this year. At noon, there will be a Kenmore West vs. Kenmore East Alumni Football Game at Crosby Field.

Tickets cost $10 at the gate, and children 10 and younger are admitted at no charge. There will be a postgame gathering at the Mang Park beer tent.

Later in the afternoon, Kenmore West alumni rugby will kick off at 3 p.m. at the park. XOXO will take the stage from 7 to 10 p.m. at Mang Park. Kenmore Days will conclude with a fireworks show at 10 p.m. in the park.

The event is made possible through funding by sponsors, such as Paddock Chevrolet; Vanner Insurance; Bond, Schoeneck and King; and the Sinatra Group, in addition to other local businesses.

Many of the events are weather-contingent, so individuals can check the Kenmore Police Department Facebook page for updates.
