Richard A. Stachnik, rehabilitation counselor

Stachnick Stachnick Richard “Dickie” A. Stachnik, 72, of Tonawanda, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018.

Mr. Stachnik was a rehabilitation counselor for Venture Forthe and helped people with traumatic brain injuries. However, his family often joked that he missed his true calling as a writer for Hallmark due to his sentimental messages to family members.

A member of St. John the Baptist Church, Mr. Stachnik served on its bereavement council, donated clothes to the needy and read the Bible daily. He had been a St. Louis Cardinals fan since the 1950s, traveling to see them play in St. Louis, Pittsburgh and Toronto.

His other hobbies were basketball and running. He would play basketball with 20 good friends at Erie Community College on Sunday mornings and also consistently ran 3 to 5 miles several times per week.

Mr. Stachnik is survived by his wife of 43 years, Robbie (nee Kwapich); two children, Evan and Jennifer; one grandchild; and one sibling, Kathy Ceckowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Oct. 29 at St. John the Baptist Church. Arrangements were made by the Amigone Funeral Home Inc.
